The Good Book Worms

Who Are We? – Anyone who wants to feed and grow on God’s Word.

What is our Mission? – To devour the whole Bible in one year!

When should I start? – The best time is now!

 Recommended translations:
NIV – true to God’s Word, easy readability
ESV – Very true to God’s Word, moderate readability
NASB – Extremely true to God’s Word, rough readability

The Good Book Worm Commitment:

I commit to reading the Bible in one year, and I commit to praying for the other Good Book Worms, praying that they have the strength to be faithful, and praying that God will work through His Word in their lives as He has promised.

How will I do this?  Here are some different schedules to follow:

Option 1.  Use the lectionary in the front of Lutheran Worship p. 295-299.  Following this plan will take you through Psalms twice, and all the other books once.  Click on the link below to see the scheduled reading for today.  * Link “Daily Schedule”

Option 2.  The following links lead to websites that change daily.  Add one to your internet favorites and read every morning before checking your email.  It is recommended to use the NIV, ESV, or NASB translations.  The LCMS website  (http://www.lcms.org/) has a link to a daily reading.  Or, you could use: http://bible.crosswalk.com/BibleInAYear/DailyReading.cgi.  One downside is that it is difficult to make up a day if you miss – the website has already changed.

Option 3.  Follow a one-year Bible.  These are Chronological (Genesis through Revelation in order), Historical (You read them in the order that they happened), or some sort of Blended (reading Old and New Testament passages on the same day).  These can be purchased at most Christian bookstores.

What if I should fall behind?

bulletEither work hard to catch up, or begin again where you should be.
bulletDo not feel guilty.  Resist the devil.  He wants you to despair in the hopes that he can get you to give up entirely.  Rather, feel joyful that through this program you are regularly feeding your faith on Jesus Christ, the Bread of Life, who is at the center of the Scriptures.
bulletResolve to try harder.  Assign a specific time of the day when you will regularly read the Bible.  Routine is your friend.
bulletCall a bookworm friend and ask for help in being accountable.
bulletAsk for God’s help.  He will strengthen you to keep the reading of his Word a priority in your life.
