The Good Book Worms

What is a Good Book Worm? - Someone who daily devours and "inwardly digests" the Good Book, that is, the Bible.

How can I become a Good Book Worm?  - Make the commitment to study God's Holy Word everyday, and go for it!

Which Bible should I use? - Generally recommended are the following translations:

NIV – true to God’s Word, easy readability
ESV – Very true to God’s Word, moderate readability
NASB – Extremely true to God’s Word, rough readability

I especially recommend the new Lutheran Study Bible.  This Bible uses the ESV translation and has excellent study notes.  It is available for pre-order (at a special introductory price) and will be released on Reformation Day: 10/31/09.

What plan should I follow? - There are many different plans available for reading the Bible in one, two, or three years.  There are many tools for daily devotion and studying Scripture.  The key is that you pick one and stick with it!  Good Book Worms are invited to consider visiting Pastor Jon Gruen's Bible study tool as one of the options for sticking with a daily Bible reading.  It is a "blog," which means that there are posts to tell you what to read that day, and some accompanying thoughts to assist you in your reflection, meditation, and application.  It also means there is the opportunity for interaction, where your comments and questions can be posted as well.  Please feel welcome to check it out at: http://bslcdailybiblereading.blogspot.com/.  It officially began on 09/09/09.

What if I should fall behind in my reading?

§       Either catch up or simply begin again.

§       Don't let feelings of guilt or the busyness of life lead you to give up.  Resist the devil.  He wants you to quit.  Rather, feel joyful that through this program you are probably reading more of God’s Holy Word than you were before.

§       Resolve to try harder.  Assign a specific time of the day when you will regularly read the Bible.  Routine is your friend.

§       Call a Good Book Worm friend and ask for help in being accountable.

§       Ask for God’s help.  He will strengthen you to keep the reading of his Word a priority in your life.

Blessings as you study God's Word!!!
