JULY 2012  NEWSLETTER

Dear Prayer Warrior

Greetings and Happy 4th of July! We have had a very busy June, and many events are upcoming for July. We have had many prayer requests for June, including Pastor Jon who underwent surgery, and we are all grateful that God has answered our prayers and he will be with us very soon.

This next month is loaded with things to do. We are welcoming new members, (hope they join our prayer chain); Vacation Bible School, (newest record yet); and the Fireworks stand, just to name a few.

Our prayer warriors stand at the ready to pray for your needs.If you would like to submit a prayer request, it will be shared with our community of faithful Christians, so that they may pray for you.

Please pray for Joan Simpson who had a concer scan Tuesday June 26th; This is her 3 yeaqr check up. Pray God will grant good results and that the scan would come back clean as it has in the past.

Pleae pray for Don Brown, who is in ICU at St. Luke's Heart Institute on the Plaza. Don has a serious infection in his blood and has pneumonia. Pray that God protect him and grant him strength and healing through the antibiotics he is receiving.

Please pray for Elnora Dammerman, who is hospitalized at St. Luke's East with a blood infection. Pray that God would grant healing and strength to Elnora.

Please pray for friend of Don and Marge Kassel, Chuck Klingsick, who has serious health concerns. Pray that God would work healing in Chuck's life.

Please pray for Lori Mullen, co-worker/friend of Sandy Brown. Lori is battling breast cancer with now another complication.  She has another tumor they believe is different kind of cancer. Tissue will be sent to Boston to find out the kind iof cancer it is (this takes 3 weeks to grow a culture). The drugs for her breast cancer are not longer working - one option left is a clinical traial; but none offered on her type of breast cancer at this time. She will start radiation this week while waiting on the results from Boston on the type of chemo to use. Her doctor feels the radiation will help. Pray for treatment to be successful.

Please pray for Susan Freyer, mother of Hattie Freyer, who has bone cancer and is undergoing radiation in Michigan. Hattie and her fiancee Adrian will be married at Beautiful Savior on July 8th, so the illness of Hattie's Mother is coming at a difficult time. Please pray for healing in Susan's life, and strength and peace for the family.

Those in Hospice care:
including Charles Dittmer & Barbara Brown  

Please pray for Kathy Duke, mother of Theresa Mellon, who has been recently diagnosed with late stage lung cancer too advanced to treat. Kathy is on hospice care. Pray for God's peace and comfort for Kathy, Theresa, and the whole family, that they might fix their eyes on Jesus and find hope and strength in him.

Those grieving:    inclusing John & Beth Flood and family at the death of John's mother Shirley Flood; Chris & George Dawson and family at the death of Chris's Father Harry Mueller; and Julie & Kevin Crookshank at the death of Julie's mother Marjorie McHarness.

Those traveling and safety:
Please pray for Gerry & Sigrid DeVita's daughter Carrie Connatser as she travels to Anchorage, Alaska, tomorrow for her marathon on Saturday. She is walking the marathon for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society in honor of Gerry and in memory of Sigrid's cousin Greg Dana and her friend Deidra Hagan. She has raised her goal of $4,250 for the L.L.S. Please pray for safe travels and strength to complete the maraghon and for her return on Monday.

Please pray for Cheri Maurer's niece Cindy and her chldren who lost their home in the Colorado fire, and for her brother Jim and his wife Saly who lost their home as well.  Give thanks to God that her relatives were safely evacuated, and pray that He would provide and grant peace.

Please pray for the members of Rock of Ages Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs.  This is George and DJ Ebert's (Gretchen Schwartz's parents) former church. The church is on the southeast fringe of the wildfires. According to the Pastor there, so far none of their members have lost their homes, although over 30 of the families have been displaced. Pray for safety for these brothers and sisters in Christ.

Please pray that the wildfires in Colorado and neighboring States soon be extnguished. Inge Richardson's daughter Cecilia lives in Colorado Springs. Please pray for her safety.

Please pray for Rev. Eric and Kara Eichinger and family (former Vicar at Beautiful Savior), who live near Orlando, Florida. The tropical storm Debbie has been devastating in that area. Please pray for their safety.

Prayers of Thanksgiving & Praise:
We thank God for the birth of Ryder Duane Johnson on Saturday, June 16. Ryder is the great grandson of Joan Simpson and the grandson of David & Susan Harralson. Ryder is currently in neonatal intensive care but is improving. Pray that Ryder keeps getting stronger everyday and that he will be able to go home very soon.

We also ask for praise and celebration for Pastor and Gretchen's 25th Wedding anniversary that was June 24th.

We praise God that Pastor Jon is now home and recovering with his family.


Prayers for a Sick Friend

“And their prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make them well. And anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.”

James 5:15-16 NLT

Dear Lord,

You know my friend/family member so much better than I do. You know his/her sickness and the burden he carries. You also know his heart. Lord, I ask you to be with my friend now as you work in his life. Lord, let your will be done in my friend's life. If there is a sin that needs to be confessed and forgiven, please help him to see his need and confess.

Lord, I pray for my friend just as your Word tells me to pray, for healing. I believe you hear this earnest prayer from my heart and that it is powerful because of your promise. I have faith in you, Lord, to heal my friend, but I also trust in the plan you have for his life.

Lord, I don't always understand your ways. I don't know why my friend has to suffer, but I trust you. I ask that you look with mercy and grace toward my friend. Nourish his spirit and soul in this time of suffering and comfort him with your presence.

Let my friend know you are there with him through this difficulty. Give him strength. And may you, through this difficulty, be glorified in his life and also in mine.

In Jesus name we pray.    AMEN.

Independence Day Prayer

Independence Day Prayer

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Those to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to affect their safety and happiness...
And for the support of this declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

Such words! I had the pleasure to have it brought to my attention recently that there is a paramount similarity between those defining statements and the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5, 6, and 7. I have copied Chapter 5 for you: read 6 and 7 if you are interested. The crux of both the Declaration and the Sermon on the Mount are the same- all men are created equal, and we have the right to pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness- and as we pledge our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor to one another, know that Christ has done the same- He gave his life, that we may gain His fortune, His word being the Sacred Honor and assurity of His promise.

The Sermon on the Mount and the Beatitudes:

1 When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him. 2 He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying,

3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

5 "Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.

6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

7 "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

8 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

10 "Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 "Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.

12 "Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

13 "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

14 "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; 15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

16 "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

17 "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.

18 "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

19 "Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

20 "For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

21 "You have heard that the ancients were told, 'YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER' and 'Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.'

22 "But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, 'You good-for-nothing,' shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, 'You fool,' shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.

23 "Therefore if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you,

24 Leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering.

25 "Make friends quickly with your opponent at law while you are with him on the way, so that your opponent may not hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.

26 "Truly I say to you, you will not come out of there until you have paid up the last cent.

27 "You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY'; 28 but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

29 "If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

30 "If your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell.

31 "It was said, 'WHOEVER SENDS HIS WIFE AWAY, LET HIM GIVE HER A CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE'; 32 but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the reason of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

33 "Again, you have heard that the ancients were told, 'YOU SHALL NOT MAKE FALSE VOWS, BUT SHALL FULFILL YOUR VOWS TO THE LORD.'

34 "But I say to you, make no oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, 35 or by the earth, for it is the footstool of His feet, or by Jerusalem, for it is THE CITY OF THE GREAT KING.  36  "Nor shall you make an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. 37 "But let your statement be, 'Yes, yes' or 'No, no'; anything beyond these is of evil.

38 "You have heard that it was said, 'AN EYE FOR AN EYE, AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.'

39 "But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.

40 "If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also.

41 "Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two.

42 "Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.

43 "You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.'

44 "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

46 "For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?

47 "If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?

48 "Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
