EDNA & ERNA SCHMIDT FAMILY LIFE CENTER

When we dedicated the Edna and Erna Schmidt Family Life Center in June of 2006, we all knew that there was great potential to use the facility for a multitude of ministry opportunities.  And what a joy it has been to see it used for the Midweek program, Bible Classes, Vacation Bible School, Advent/Lenten Meals, New Member Sunday events, the Easter Breakfast, and the like.  It also has provided a home for the Upward Basketball Program in the Lee’s Summit community.

Yes, the Family Life Center has been a great blessing!  It has been a space where the Good News of Jesus has been proclaimed to the churched and the unchurched.  It has been a place where God’s people have joined together in worship, in fellowship, in Bible study, and in service.  It has been a place where God has worked among us to forgive, to bless, and to give peace.

Well, confident that God will continue to use this space for his purposes, a committee has been established to see that this facility is upgraded and improved so ministry would be more effective in the years ahead. The upgrade will include sound (acoustics) and lighting improvements (window tinting and shades), the acquisition of some necessary equipment for ministry, and also some painting and minor repairs.

Once completed, the upgrade will improve the quality of:

·         Large group weekly Bible studies

·         New Member Sunday introductions

·         Meal and fellowship events

·         Congregational movie nights

·         Video presentations and Bible studies

·         Worship services, such as Friendship Sunday worship and potential Liturgical-Contemporary worship

·         Congregational meetings and presentations

·         Upward Basketball introductions and devotions

·         Children’s programs (VBS and Christmas)

·         Confirmation Speech Banquet

This is just a partial list.  The upgrade can potentially improve all current and future ministry activities in the Family Life Center.

So how will all this be funded?  Well, a Leadership Fund Drive has begun to gather gifts and pledges in order to make these important improvements and upgrades.  Here is a description of what will be happening: 1) While everyone in the congregation has an opportunity to participate in this endeavor, gifts will be specifically sought out from leadership giving within the church.  2) Gifts given by individuals to this designated project are to be over and above their regular giving.  Otherwise, the gifts will not be accepted.  3)  Some gifts have already being received ($8,600).  4) The target for the project is $50,000.

It is important to emphasize that the acquiring and using of funds, the researching of the enhancement plan, and the acquisition and installation of the upgrade will be supervised by the Church Council in accordance with our constitution.

As always, we ask you to pray for the ministry of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church that we would be effective in equipping the saved and reaching out to the lost.  Pray that God’s will would be done.  Pray that God would continue to bless us all as we live out our Christian lives as faithful stewards of all that God has given us.

                            Redeemed to Serve,

    Pastor Schwartz

Meet Pastor Schwartz, Gretchen, and Andrew!

Pastor Nathaniel Schwartz graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, with a Master of Divinity (M. Div.) in 1989 and a Master of Sacred Theology (S.T.M) in 1995.  He was pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Lexington, Illinois, from June of 1990 to October of 1994.  On November 6, 1994, he was installed as pastor of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.

Since that time our church body has seen tremendous growth.  Our average weekend attendance in 2008 was 314, including Saturday evening and Sunday morning.  Our Sunday School/Bible Class attendance lately has been averaging about 110.  We are a growing family that seeks to reach out even more into the community with the love of Jesus.

“Pastor” is a Latin word that means “shepherd”. Pastor Schwartz sees himself as a shepherd who has been placed here by God to care for the sheep (God’s people) in this place. He believes that as the under shepherd of the Good Shepherd he is faithfully to follow the example set by Jesus Christ who laid down His life for the sheep. Therefore, he joyfully and consistently goes the extra mile to care for God’s people and to be “Jesus with skin on” to them whether they are grieving difficult times or are joyfully celebrating God’s many blessings
